On the auspicious occasion of India’s 76th Independence Day, the iconic World Trade Center in New York, US, was lighted in the colours of the Indian Tricolor to honour the world’s greatest democracy. The Indian Flag was digitally projected atop one of America’s most prominent buildings to honour the day. Notably, the World Trade Center is the tallest tower in the United States and stands on the site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Aside from that, the Indian National Flag was hoisted over Times Square in New York. The Federation of Indian Associations in the New York metropolitan area organised the celebration. Furthermore, Indian Consulate General Randhir Jaswal unfurled the Tricolour in the presence of New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
Devi Sri Prasad (DSP) and Shankar Mahadevan, two well-known Indian music composers, also attended the event. It is worth noting that Mahadevan performed the patriotic song “Ae Watan Watan Mere Aabad Rahe Tu.” Members of the Indian diaspora sang together at the celebration to commemorate India’s 75th anniversary of freedom.
According to media accounts, hundreds of witnesses observed the national flag being hoisted at the location. Furthermore, the United States lighted the Empire Star Building with a 220-foot-high tricolour display across the Hudson River.
Meanwhile, the US Embassy in India observed a historic practice in honour of Independence Day. According to the Embassy, a few American diplomats and their families engaged in the traditional kite-flying ceremony to honour the day’s spirit.
On the occasion of India’s 75th anniversary of independence, US President Joe Biden commended New Delhi as an “indispensable” partner. In a statement, Biden stressed that the United States and India will continue to collaborate in the future to address global concerns. As India celebrated its Independence Day, the US President appealed to Gandhi’s “enduring message of truth and non-violence.”
