Many people have become millionaires overnight either by sheer luck or skills that are hard to match.
In one such incidence, Joshua Hutagalung of North Sumatra, Indonesia, a 33-year-old man, got richer by $1.8 million after a meteorite crashed through the roof of his house.
According to experts, he was able to bag the huge amount because the meteor turned out to be 2.1 kilograms in weight and around 4.5 billion years old. The meteor was classified as CM1/2 carbonaceous Chondrite, an extremely rare variety. Each gram of the meteorite is worth $853.
Joshua said that the rock was still warm when he touched it for the first time.
“When I lifted it, the stone was still warm and I brought it into the house. The sound was so loud that parts of the house were shaking too. And after I searched, I saw that the tin roof of the house had broken,” Joshua told local media.
“I strongly suspect that this rock is indeed an object from the sky that many people call a meteorite. Because it is impossible someone deliberately threw it or dropped it from above,” he added.
A part of the meteorite was bought by US meteorite expert Jared Collins.
