Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Trip to India Starts Today

The Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov arrives India on Thursday to undertake his two day’s official visit. This is the first visit of Russian Foreign Minister to India after the Ukraine invasion of Russia.

The focus of Lavrov’s visit will be on India’s purchase of subsidised Russian crude oil and the establishment of a rupee-ruble payment system for export growth in light of Western sanctions against Moscow.

During the talks, India is likely to press Russia to ensure the timely delivery of various military hardware and components of the S-400 missile systems.

Lavrov’s visit follows Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to New Delhi last week, the first in over two years. Despite mounting pressure from the West, China and India haven’t condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. India also abstained from UN resolutions censuring Russia and continues to buy Russian oil and other goods.

How ever no additional information was disclosed on who Lavrov would meet during his visit to india.
