Russian President Vladimir Putin has survived an assassination attempt. The information was released on Wednesday, according to the General GVR Telegram channel. However, the publication said that it is unknown when the attempt occurred. Rumours about Mr Putin’s health and safety have been circulating since Russia invaded Ukraine in February of this year. In terms of the Russian President, Putin publicly revealed in 2017 that he had survived at least five assassination attempts.
The left front wheel of Mr Putin’s limousine was hit by a loud blast, according to the report, adding that the car was promptly moved to safety even as smoke erupted from it. The Russian President was unharmed in the incident, but a number of arrests were made, according to the site.
Others reported on the incident, claiming that Mr Putin was returning to his official residence in a decoy convoy due to security concerns.
“On the way to the residence, a few kilometres away, the first escort car was blocked by an ambulance, the second escort car drove around without stopping (due to the) sudden obstacle, and during the detour of the obstacle,” an update posted on channel as cited by the outlet said.
This comes a week after a group of St Petersburg MPs asked the State Duma to charge Mr Putin with state treason and depose him, citing a variety of reasons including Russia’s military defeats in Ukraine and the economic damage caused by Western sanctions.
Another local deputy stated that 65 municipal members from St. Petersburg, Moscow, and other regions had signed a petition demanding for Putin’s resignation, which she published on Monday.
