The Ukraine-Russian War is going on. Attacking many cities Russia is adhere to invade Ukraine. On the other hand Ukraine has been standing strong and determined to defend till the end. Many countries condemned Russia and its president Putin showing their support towards Ukraine.
With a population of 43 Million, Ukraine is the second largest European country by area after Russia. And the Capital Kyiv which was destroyed after bombing was the largest city in the country. The city Kyiv is also the historical capital of Kievan Rus. The country is surrounded by Russia to the east, Romania and Black Sea to the South, Belarus to the North, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to the West.
History
The territory of modern Ukraine that used to be the key centre of East Slavic culture under the Kyivan Rus have been inhabited since 32,000 BCE. It was destroyed by Mongol Invasion in 13th century. The area was later ruled by many external powers such as Austraian Empire, Ottoman Empire and Tsadom of Russia. In 17th century the central Ukraine was divided between Poland and Russian Empire and later was dominated by Russian Empire entirely. Ukraine had experienced a brief portion of independence in 1918-20 but the portion of Western Ukraine was ruled by Poland, Romania and Czechoslovakia. In the 18th Century the territory was included in the Governorate of Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kyiv and Little Russia, Podillia and Volyn. During World War 2 Ukraine became Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (S.S.R.) the part of Soviet Union.
Independence
In 1990 over 300,000 Ukrainians organized a human chain holding hands between Kyiv and Lyiv for Ukrainian independence. A communist party was formed to remove Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev and restore Communist Party but failed. In 1991 the Act of Independence formed. Ukraine finally Ukraine got its full independence. Leonid Kravchuk became the first President of Ukraine and then the country changed its name to Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the sixth President of Ukraine.
Russo-ukrainian War
During the presidency of the Third President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko in 2005 to 2010 the relation between Ukraine and Russia worsened due to the increased friendship of Ukraine with the European Union. On the other hand during the Presidency of Yanukovych in 2014 a civil war took place as the president did not sign the Ukraine – European Union Association Agreement and tied with Russia. Around 80 died in the civil war. Following the violence the Ukraine President was eliminated. This was known as Revolution of Dignity. Following the Ukrainian revolution of Dignity the major conflict between Russia and Ukraine began. Russia in 2014 initially focused on the status of Crimea and Donbas. The Russian soldiers seized the Crimea Parliament. A war between Ukrainian forces one side and Separatists with Russian forces on the other side. In 2015 the Minsk II agreements were signed by Russia and Ukraine but a number of disputes prevented it being fully implemented. During 2021 and 2022 a major Russian military built up around Ukraine’s border. Vladimir Putin criticised NATO demanded Ukraine be barred from ever joining military alliance. The current war has begun when Russia on 21st February 2022 officially recognized the two self-proclaimed separatist states in the Donbas and openly sent troops into the territories. The attack is still continuing, killing the innocent people.
