Shehbaz Sharif Elected Prime Minister of Pakistan

Shehbaz Sharif has been elected unopposed as the next Prime Minister of Pakistan, succeeding Imran Khan, who was removed through a no-confidence motion after the National Assembly debated on the matter for more than 12 hours and the political situation in the country took a critical turn Saturday night.

It is also mentioned that the Pakistani court deferred until April 27 the indictment of Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz in a high-profile money laundering case and extended their pre-arrest bail, allowing the PML-N president to become the new Prime Minister.

The process of electing the new leader of the house began on Sunday.

Shebaz Sharif is the brother of Nawaz Sharif, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan who served for 3 non-consecutive terms, a total of 9 years. In 2018 the Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Nawaz from holding public office and sentenced imprisonment of 10 years. In 2021 Nawaz is in London for medical treatment on expired bail.

Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif who has been a member of National Assembly of Pakistan since August 13th, 2018 is the current Presiden of the Pakistan Muslim League-N.
