Sri Lanka’s Central Bank Governor resigns amid economic crisis

Ajit Nivard Cabraal the Central Bank Governor has submitted his resignation. Ajit Cabraal resigns as CBSL Governor on Sunday after he was called to cabinet meeting at Temple Tree.

Nivard Cabraal took to his Twitter and said, “In the context of all Cabinet Ministers resigning. I have today submitted my resignation as the Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka.”

Cabraal is a Chartered Accountant and the Governor of the Central bank of Sri Lanka. He was also the former State Minister of Finance.

Cabraal served as the governor of the central Bank of Sri lanka in 2006 and resigned on 2015. Later in 2021 Cabraal again became the Governor of Central Bank of Sri Lanka and resigned yesterday.

Amid Sri-Lankan economic crisis the 26-member Sri-Lankan cabinet has also submitted letter of resignation. They have all signed a general letter, consenting to resign paving a way for a new cabinet to be formed.
The situation in Sri Lanka has worsened day by day. The whole country is presently facing a foreign exchange shortage which led to a food, fuel, power and gas shortage.
