Two Indian High Commission staffers in Pakistan go missing, MEA seeks response from Islamabad

Guwahati, 15 June: According to sources, two junior officials posted in the Indian High Commission in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad have gone missing on Monday morning. It is suspected that they might have been picked up by Pakistani security agencies to frame them as spies.

The two staffers had gone out of the High Commission on a vehicle for some official work when they went missing. The officials are missing for more than two hours now. There is no official statement on this yet. It is reported that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) here has taken up the matter with the Pakistani Government. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has also been informed.

According to reports, the junior officials in the Islamabad mission had stepped out for some work on Monday morning. When they did not reach their destination, officials of the High Commission informed New Delhi and Pakistan’s foreign office.

The move is believed to be Pakistan’s reply for the expulsion of two Pakistan High Commission officials who were caught spying about a fortnight ago. Tensions had been building between the two countries ever since then.
