In a major breakthrough in the chain of human trafficking from the Northeast to other parts of the country, Railway Protection Force has detained 10 suspected Rohingyas along with one human trafficker.
Speaking to the media, SP, Guwahati Railway Police Mayank Kumar Jha said, “Based on information the GRP team followed a preliminary investigation where it was found that the group comprises a human trafficker from India along with nine victims from Myanmar (two males, six females, and a child) who were transported to Delhi from where the victims were to be shifted to one of the Rohingyas camps in Jammu or Hyderabad.”
Meanwhile, he adds more said that the trafficker has been identified as Aman Ullah (29 years). On being interrogated, the person confirmed that he is from Jammu. He disclosed that he doesn’t personally know the victims, nor do they know him, thus indicating that he is the transporter in this trafficking arrangement. He works as a rickshaw puller at Badarpur in the Karimganj district of Assam. The nine other persons were however from Myanmar — namely, Hadiya Begum (22 years); Fatima Begum (25), Rukiya Begum (23), Rashida Begum (18); Sofika Begum (20); and Himada Begum (22); besides males Abdul Zabar (22); Rizvaan (23); and a minor girl of three years.
The SP further said, “The group was promised to give jobs and also the ticket fare of the train, while they were trapped. The group was found in Train no 05626 Agartala-Deoghar Express at the Guwahati Railway station.”
As the group said during the interrogation to the GRP they entered Tripura from Bangladesh; and from Tripura, the group proceeded to Assam. They also claimed to possess IDs (Identity Cards) from UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).
