To control the situation on Wednesday evening the police resorted to lathi-charge to the local people who blocked the Narengi-Chandrapur-Morigaon road strongly opposing the shifting of the Guwahati city’s garbage dumping site from Boragaon in West Guwahati to the newly-chosen site in Chandrapur
Local people informing said that several protesters received minor injuries, a few of them have also been detained by the police.
More than 25 garbage-laden trucks of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) were blocked by the protesters since the morning hours.
However, the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) started the dumping of the garbage at Chandrapur following an Assam Government directive on June 24, 2021.
