Lt. Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, the first person from North-East to take over as GOC-in-C, Eastern Command

Lt. Gen Ranapratap Kalita took over as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the prestigious Eastern Command of the Indian Army on Tuesday. Rana Pratap Kalita is the first person from Assam and the North-East to take over as the General Officer Commanding of the Eastern Command, known as the most important and respected command of the Indian Army.
Lt Gen Kalita formally took over the responsibility at a function held at the Eastern Command Headquarters in Fort William, Kolkata on Tuesday. Lt Gen Kalita assumed office after paying homage to the martyrs at Vijay Smarak, followed by a guard of honor at Garrison Battalion Parade Ground. Prior to this, he was the Director-General Manpower Planning & Personnel Services in IHQ of MoD (Army), New Delhi.
