On Thursday, A Special Judge’s court granted bail to Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Cash-for-Job scam’s prime accused Rakesh Paul in connection to a case registered by the CID.
Earlier in June this year, the court had framed charges against Paul under Section 7 and 13 (b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, along with Section 420 of IPC in this case. CID had registered a case against Paul based on an FIR by one Sun Kumar Baishya, who alleged Paul of taking hefty money against a promise of a government job.
However, Paul would continue to be in jail as he was yet to receive bail in a separate case registered with the city’s Bhangagarh police. Speaking to the media, Paul’s lawyers said, “Out of the four cases against Paul, he has been granted bail in three except the Bhangagarh police station case.”
Paul has been in jail since his arrest in November 2016. So far 41 accused have been granted bail in the APSC scam case.
