Tensions escalated at the Assam-Meghalaya inter-state boundary after the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) erected electricity poles at Dakshin Ganesh Nagar under the Basistha area on Monday.
On receiving information, the Chief Minister directed the Home Department and the Deputy Commissioner to inspect the area. Acting on the CM’s direction, Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner (DC) Biswajit Pegu and Commissioner of Police (CP), Guwahati Harmeet Singh conducted an inspection of the area on Tuesday. An almost identical incident occurred yesterday when MeECL had attempted to install electrical poles in the Assam-Meghalaya border’s Khanapara region.
