Meghalaya Cabinet extends curfew to Wednesday

The Meghalaya state cabinet met today to discuss the current prevailing situation in the city of Shillong.

Here are some of the key decisions taken by the cabinet today:

  1. Cabinet has decided to constitute a judicial enquiry under the Commission of Enquiry Act to look into the events that occurred in the wee hours of 13th August 2021.
  2. A Peace Committee will be constituted, chaired by the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Sh. P. Tynsong & Cabinet Ministers, Sh. H. Dohling, & Sh. R. L. Tongkhar. The Committee will co-opt members from civil societies, religious organisations, community heads, etc.
  3. There will also be a Sub-Committee for Security & Law & Order headed by the Chief Minister, Sh. Conrad K Sangma with Deputy Chief Minister & Home Minister as members to look into aspects of law & order, possible future threats and overall functioning of Meghalaya Police.
  4. Lastly, in view of the overall situation in Shillong, the #Curfew will be extended till 5 AM on 18th August 2021. The temporary ban on mobile internet services will also be extended for the next 24 hours.
