State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Wednesday distributed scooters to 15,160 meritorious girl students of Assam.
The distribution was done under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award of the Pragyan Bharati scheme of the state government.
The distribution ceremony was held at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Auditorium in Bhangagarh, Guwahati.
A total of 15,160 meritorious girl students received scooters under the scheme. 5,028 students are from the 2018 batch and 10,132 students are from the 2019 batch.
The students of the 2018 and 2019 batches were selected on a Merit basis.
Earlier, a total of 22,245 students got scooters in the first phase under the Dr. Banikanta Merit Award.

It is to be mentioned that the flagship scheme was launched on December 20 at a program at Amingaon, Kamrup district by Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. A total of Rs. 144.30 crores will be spent to provide scooters.
