Assam police claim to have reasons to believe that Mizoram’s Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena has an active role in the violent clashes that broke out on July 26, leading to the death of at least six state police jawans and injuring 40 others.
The Mizo MP is reported to have publicly cautioned Assam Police and threatened that if they (Assam Police) were to go to the Mizoram side of the border then all of them would face fatal consequences. He also claimed before media that it was Assam Police who shot first on the day of the clash. Vanlalvena said, “Over hundreds of Assam policemen entered our territory and they pushed back our policemen from our own posts and shot first. They are lucky that we didn’t kill them all. If they come again, we shall kill them all.”

Reacting to the statement, Assam police special director general GP Singh said that a team of Assam Police would go to Delhi to question Vanlalvena. Assam Police on their part maintains that Mizoram police fired upon them without any provocation.
“Assam Police team including officers of CID is leaving for Delhi to take lawful action relating to the conspiracy behind the incident in light of media interview of Rajya Sabha MP Sri K Vanlalvena indicative of his active role in the conspiracy,” Singh tweeted.
Twitter War with foreign mercenaries
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma suspected a ‘foreign hand’ in a recent Twitter backlash that Assam faced following the violent border clash. As the violence at the borders claimed the lives of at least six state police personnel, netizens started to pour their heart out on social media reacting to the situation. A hashtag #ShameOnAssam started to trend as many Twitter accounts started to shower disdain on Assam police, blaming them as the ‘intruders’.

However, one Vikrant who introduced himself as a “farmer with an opinion” on Twitter claimed that most of the tweets with the ‘shame on Assam’ hashtags were done through Twitter handles based out of the USA. He shared images of Twitter analytics while posting, “Saw the’ Shame on Assam’ hashtag trending.. so did a quick check on who is trending it. Found that most of the handles are from the USA, only 1/3rd from India. Just 2.6 million reach shows that mostly bots were used. Who is behind it?”
Vikrant’s tweet immediately drew the attention of the Assam CM as he retweeted Vikrant’s tweet saying that it was a matter of grave concern. Sarma tweeted: “Very serious matter. I agree – Need to know who is behind this?”
On the other hand, a new Twitter onslaught using ‘shame on Mizoram’ hashtags was also seen to be trending on the popular social media platform since Thursday morning.
