Assam Government on a month-long trial basis has allowed the online purchase and home delivery of liquor in Guwahati municipal areas.
The decision was taken due to the heavy rush near liquor shops at the closing hours.
Speaking to the media, state health minister Keshab Mahanta said, “Taking the Supreme court and Madras high court verdict into consideration, the government of Assam has decided to allow the online purchase of liquor for one month. This facility will be applicable only in Guwahati Municipal areas.”
The guidelines will be framed by the State Excise Department, said the health minister.
