National TV Anchor Rahul Kanwal Terms Nagaland As Not a Part of India

Rahul Kanwal on Nagaland

India Today journalist Rahul Kanwal while discussing fugitive Mehul Choksi’s extradition from Dominica made quite an embarrassing blunder.

The senior national platform journalist Kanwal was discussing the repartition of Choksi from Dominica with Rupin Sharma, Nagaland DGP, and author of the book ‘Extradition’ when Sharma briefly lost his connection.
After being reconnected to the live feed, Sharma apologized and said that there was a power cut.
In reply, Kanwal stated –
“Don’t worry, you are in Nagaland, electricity goes off even in India, please go on.”

Netizens were quick to question Kanwal if he thought Nagaland was not a part of India.
BJP leader Mmhonlumo Kikon said that they’d need to invite Kanwal to Nagaland soon for a lesson in geography.
“We need to invite @rahulkanwal to Nagaland very soon!
We need major geography class for major media professionals too!” the BJP leader wrote on his Twitter page.

However, the India Today journalist soon apologized for his mistaken ‘slip of tongue’.
Replying to the BJP leader’s Tweet, Kanwal wrote –
“This was a slip of tongue. My apologies. Was meaning to say Delhi. My bad”

Adviser to Chief Minister of Nagaland, Abu Metha also took to Twitter to take a dig into Kanwal’s grave mistake.
“A bit of geography for our good friend @rahulkanwal. It’s called the #LandOfFestivals situated on the Indo-Myanmar international boundary. And we would love to host you. Come – let’s make memories together. #Nagaland.” Abu Metha wrote in his official Twitter page.

In reply, Kanwal wrote –
“My friend, I’d love to come with my children to Nagaland. Many close friends are from your lovely state. Love the food and the culture. What happened yesterday was an inadvertent slip of the tongue. A million apologies for hurting your sentiments. I’m feeling very bad myself.”

Just a remainder – On May 25, YouTuber Paras Singh into taken into police custody on the case related to the use of a racial slur against former Arunachal Pradesh MP and sitting Congress legislator from Pasighat Ninong Ering and inciting ill will and hatred towards the people of the frontier state.
The young YouTuber was even brought to Arunachal Pradesh and was interrogated.
