Deep Sidhu was arrested on Tuesday by the Delhi police in relation to the violence on Republic Day at the Red Fort.

Sidhu is accused of his involvement in hoisting the flag on 26th January. He is held responsible for igniting fights and disorder during a tractor rally by farmers protesting against the three agricultural laws passed by the central government which led to protestors not following agreed routes and timetables and constraining their way into the Red Fort.

A cash reward of ₹1 lakh had been announced by the police for any information in connection to Sidhu and three other accused.

There is an FIR lodged which mention names of Deep Sidhu and gangster Lakka Sadana, that the former was present at the Red Fort when a religious flag and a farmer flag were hoisted at the flagpole at the monument.

The Police were continuously urging furious farmers to calm down and return to the agreed routes but later they had to use tear gas and lathi-charges to stabilise the situation.

As stated by police, he used to make videos defending himself and send it to a female friend in California who uploaded them on his Facebook account.

Farmer groups have accused Sindhu of trying to sabotage their movement and creating a false conspiracy against them.

Sidhu claims to be a huge supporter of enhancing the federal structure by providing more powers and functions to the state.

44 cases were filed by the Delhi Police and around 122 people were arrested in connection with the Republic Day violence.
