On July 8, a cloudburst struck near the base camp of the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in the Himalayas of south Kashmir. They said the Amarnath cloudburst hit the cave area around 5.30 p.m. after heavy rains.
According to officials, police and other civil administration launched a rescue operation after some langars were flooded.
Officials confirmed on Saturday that at least 16 people were killed and that 15,000 pilgrims who were stranded near the Amarnath holy cave in Jammu and Kashmir due to a flash flood caused by the cloudburst relocated to the lower base camp of Panjtarni.
According to a Border Security Force spokesperson in Delhi, “16 bodies have been transferred to Baltal.” According to an ITBP spokesperson, the force has expanded its route opening and protection parties from the lower part of the holy cave up to Panjtarni.
The pilgrimage began on June 30 and was halted due to the tragedy. According to a senior administration official, a decision on its resumption will be made once rescue operations are completed.
Due to the flash flood on Friday evening, most pilgrims who were stranded near the holy cave shrine area have been relocated to Panjtarni.
