Army Chief Reaches Leh; Will Review Operational Preparedness

Leh, Army Chief General

National: Army Chief General MM Naravane on September 3 had reached Leh. The visit is part of a two-day visit to review the operational preparedness in the Ladakh region. The visit comes in the backdrop of the fresh conflict between Indian and Chinese soldiers. The fresh clash was at Pangong Lake in Eastern Ladakh. On September 9, there was a third round of talks between Indian and Chinese officials. The main motive of the meeting was to resolve the fresh conflict between the two armies.

Indian and Chinese troops were in a clash at the southern bank of the Pangong Lake. The Chinese brought around 450 troops near the Pangong Lake. Their main motive was to change the status quo. However, the Indian Army claims that they were successful in foiling the attempts made by the Chinese Army.
According to sources, PLA troops were trying to climb a table-top area with ropes and other climbing equipment. The table-top area was between Black Top and Thakung Heights at Pangong Tso’s south bank. However, their plans to reach the area were not successful. Hearing commotion, the Indian Army became alert and took action.
The fresh clash between both sides is because of China’s plans to change the status quo along LAC. However, things did not escalate, as soon as PLA saw the Indian troops, the incursion stopped.

Earlier, Indian Intelligence agencies had also alerted the Indian Army about PLA’s plans. The main plan of China’s PLA Army was to change the status quo in areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
