Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president JP Nadda on Monday said Covid-19 pandemic delayed the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the law will be implemented soon.
Addressing a meeting of party workers in West Bengal, JP Nadda said, “As far as the CAA is concerned, it has already been passed in parliament. All of you will get the benefits of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. We are committed to it.”
Nadda added that the BJP-led government in the centre is working towards implementing the act. “Due to the coronavirus pandemic, its implementation got delayed. But as the situation is slowly improving, the work has started. The rules are now being framed and CAA will be implemented very soon. Under this act all the eligible people will definitely get Indian citizenship,” he added.
Nadda added that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act would be a major poll plank of the BJP in the upcoming assembly poll in Assam and West Bengal.
