National: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered a CBI probe into the controversial suicidal death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The top court also directed the Mumbai police to hand over all the evidence collected in the investigation of the actor’s death to the CBI. The court observed that the FIR filed by Sushant Singh Rajput’s father in Patna was correct and the Bihar government had the right to refer the Patna FIR to the CBI.
The Maharashtra Government has been asked to comply and assist in the case. The CBI is also free to register a fresh case, the Supreme Court informed.
The SC said that the CBI will have the power to probe only the Patna FIR but any other FIR related to the Rajput death case.
Meanwhile, the court further observed that the Mumbai Police only had limited investigating powers as the department had registered only an accidental death report for Rajput’s death. And since Bihar police registered a fully-fledged FIR which already stand referred to CBI, the central agency should probe the case.
The actor, aged 34, was found hanging from the ceiling at his home in suburban Bandra in Mumbai on June 14. The Mumbai Police have been probing the case since then keeping in mind various angles.
