News Desk: The government on Wednesday provided the people with an extension of two months to file their income tax returns. Thereby, the taxpayers have got time till the end of September to file their income tax returns for Fiscal Year 19.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Wednesday notified the extension. The due date for filing tax returns for FY19 has been extended from July 31 to September 30.
CBDT invoked the powers given under the Taxation and other Laws (Relaxation of Certain Provisions) Ordinance. The ordinance brought out in March gives additional time to taxpayers in view of the difficulties during the pandemic.
With the number of coronavirus cases in India crossing 1.5 million, the relaxation comes as a sigh of relief for the people. The relaxation comes at a time when the country is under movement restrictions of some form or the other. One consideration for giving extra time for various statutory filings is to improve compliance.
Meanwhile, Taxpayers got time till the end of November for filing returns for FY20.
