On September 4, the Election Commission holds a meeting regarding the by-elections due in various states. Presently, there are 65 clear vacancies due for by-elections in Assembly and Parliamentary Constituency. Out of 65 vacancies, there are 64 vacancies in the State Legislative Assemblies of various states. The other one vacancy is for the Parliamentary Constituency.
The Commission has been reviewing the inputs and reports from Chief Secretaries and Chief Electoral Officers of various states. The concerning officers seek deferment of the by-elections in their states in view of several factors. This includes the extraordinary heavy rains in some places. Other constraints like the pandemic and many more are also important factors.
The General Assembly Elections of Bihar are also due. It requires to get complete before November 29, 2020. The Election Commission has taken the decision to conduct all the by-elections and the General Assembly Elections of Bihar around the same time. The main reason for collaborating them together is to ease of movement of CAPF. The movement of other law forces and relative logistics issues are also other reasons.
The Commission will announce all the by-elections inappropriate time. The Commission will also announce the schedule of the Bihar General Assembly Elections.
