Fact Check: Agra College Did not Ask Girls to Get ‘At least One Boyfriend’ by Feb 14

Agra College

A circular published by an Agra college on January 14 is doing rounds on social media.

The viral letter reads, “It is mandatory for all girls to have at least one boyfriend by February 14. This has been done for security purposes. Single girls will not be allowed to enter the college premises. They’ll have to show a recent picture with their boyfriend. Spread love.”

The circular apparently published by one of the oldest educational institutes in Agra, St John’s College contains a formal logo and a digital signature of the associate dean at the bottom.

However, the viral letter is actually a fake one. College Principal Prof S.P. Singh issued a clarification report on Monday stating, “It has come to our notice that some mischievous elements have been circulating a message wrongfully attributing it to college authorities. The intent seems to tarnish the good name and reputation of the college.”

“Students are asked to ignore the unauthorized information. The college authorities will find out those responsible for the mischievous act and initiate action against them,” he warned.

Meanwhile, a similar incident took in Assam on January 22 as well when a similar fake notice in the name of Gauhati Commerce College was circulated by some miscreants.
