A fire at a hospital located in a Mumbai mall on Friday has resulted in the death of 10 people, a fire brigade official informed.
The fire broke out at the Sunrise Hospital in the Dreams mall building in the Bhandup area of Mumbai at around 12:30 am on Friday midnight, the official stated. Around 70 patients were rescued, he added.
The hospital is situated on the third floor of the five-storeyed mall building and many patients including those being treated for COVID-19 were at the hospital when the fire broke out.
The cause of the ‘level four fire’ is not known yet and is under investigation, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
Meanwhile, a statement released by the hospital stated, ” There was a fire on the first floor of Dreams Mall, Bhandup and the smoke reached up to the Sunrise Hospital located on the top floor. When fire alarms beeped, all patients were safely evacuated to the fire refuge area as the smoke was reaching the hospital.”
