Former Home Minister and senior Congress leader Buta Singh died at Delhi AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Science) on Saturday.
The lifelong Congress member was in a coma since October after he suffered a Brain Hemorrhage. Buta Singh started his political career with the Akali Dal before joining the Congress party.
An eight-time Lok Sabha MP entered Parliament in 1962 from Moga Lok Sabha constituency, Punjab, and was later appointed as the Deputy Minister for Railways in 1974 during the reign of Indira Gandhi.
Later he was appointed as the Union Minister and was involved in the reconstruction of the Golden Temple.
The former Congress leader also served the country as the Home Minister between 1986-89, later he held the post of Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Caste till 2010.
Tributes poured from all across the country including President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, the Indian National Congress Party, and many other prominent leaders.
President Ram Nath Kovind took to Twitter to convey his condolence to the former leader, “In the passing of Shri Buta Singh, the country has lost one of the longest-serving parliamentarians with rich administrative experience. He championed the cause of the oppressed and marginalized. Condolences to his family and supporters.”

PM Narendra Modi twitted, “Shri Buta Singh Ji was an experienced administrator and effective voice for the welfare of the poor as well as downtrodden. Saddened by his passing away. My condolences to his family and supporters.”

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi also took to Twitter to convey his condolences to the family members of the former Congress leader.
