Hyderabad: Four juveniles granted bail in teen gang-rape case
Six people were arrested after a 17-year-old girl was gang-raped in a car in the affluent Jubilee Hills neighbourhood
Four minor boys charged in the Jubilee Hills gang rape case in Hyderabad were released from the Juvenile Justice Board today after being granted bail by the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate cum Juvenile Justice Board on Tuesday. Six people were arrested after a 17-year-old girl was gang-raped in an official car assigned to the father of one of the accused.
Five of the six boys were minors, with the exception of one adult. Four minors were released today, while the fifth accused remains in the Juvenil Home while his bail application is heard by the Telangana State High Court. Saduddin Mallik, the sixth and only adult, has been denied bail and is being held in a local jail.
Since the first week of June, the accused have been in a juvenile home and jail. The incident occurred on May 28.
Among the minors who have been released is the son of a local legislator. All of the accused are school students who were in Classes 11 and 12 at the time of the crime. They are all members of political families. After initially denying the existence of a gang rape, the police launched an investigation after a BJP MLA released a video at a press conference that rendered the case inadmissible.
The accused picked up the minor girl from a local pub in posh Jubilee Hills on the pretence of dropping her home after an afternoon party on May 28. The girl’s father reported the incident to the police after seeing her badly bruised and injured the next day. The accused first drove her to a nearby pasty shop before switching from a red Mercedes to a white Innova.
The girl was raped inside the vehicle in a remote location near the famous Padamma Temple.
After a police complaint was filed, a specialised police team persuaded the girl to reveal the truth. The police then combed through the CCTV footage to determine the identity of the accused.
Instead of taking the girl home after the crime, the accused allegedly dropped her off at a pub, where her father later picked her up. According to the police, the party where the accused befriended the girl was a non-smoking and alcohol-free environment stated in a press conference in June
