New Delhi: The government of India on Wednesday announced the ban of 118 more Chinese apps including PUBG in the country in the backdrop of the ongoing border dispute with China.
“Government blocks 118 mobile apps which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, Defence of India, Security of State and Public Order,” the government said in a statement.
The list of banned apps includes popular applications like PUBG, WeChat.
The Information Technology Ministry received numerous complaints regarding misuse of these Apps for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers located outside India.
“The compilation of these data, its mining, and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures,” the statement said.
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, under the Ministry of Home Affairs also sent a recommendation for blocking these controversial apps.
This is the third time that the Indian Government has issued a list that targets Chinese mobile apps. The first list came out on June 29 after the Galwan Valley skirmish Another list of 47 Chinese apps was issued in July to ban programs that were trying to clone the apps banned in the first iteration.
