Neighboring nation Sri Lanka on Thursday received 5 Lakhs doses of Covid-19 vaccine from India under its ‘Neighborhood First’ policy. The consignment of 5 Lakhs doses of COVIDSHIELD vaccines was packed in 42 boxes.
A total of 2.5 Lakhs people, mostly health, frontline workers, security forces and police will get the vaccine shot on a priority basis.
Sri Lanka has also planned to purchase a total of 20 Lakhs to 30 Lakhs doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine from India’s Serum Institute.
Meanwhile, India has supplied Covid vaccines to its neighboring countries including Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan, Myanmar, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.
Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa took to Twitter thanking PM Narendra Modi upon receiving the vaccine.
