Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation CEO Mark Suzman on Wednesday stated that a large portion of COVID-19 vaccines will be manufactured in the country through strong and robust Indian private sector partners. This will be a key focus of the area during the next phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CEO also stated that India is doing everything it can with the resources at hand to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Suzman also said that the foundation believes in the need for equitable global distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines. He said that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is working to ensure that developing countries have access to the vaccines at the same volumes as wealthy countries.
The foundation is also working at multiple levels in combating COVID-19.
“We work with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovation (CEPI) organization, which is a leading partner in investing in potential vaccines. We have developed a therapeutic accelerator which has raised over $ 125 million to help find treatments effective against COVID-19.” Suzman added.
Apart from therapeutic accelerator, the foundation is also working on global efforts to develop and distribute COVID-19 vaccines. They are also directly supporting some specific investments including Indian partners like Serum Institute of India and GAVI.
