Ministry of Railways on Wednesday said that the railway board has given approval to various zones for 39 new trains. The official statement read, “Services will be introduced as special services from convenient dates.”
As per the list released by the Ministry, most of the trains will be of the category of AC Express, Duronto, Rajdhani, and Shatabdi. Earlier Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav said that the railway is planning to run more than 200 trains during the festive season, between October 15 and November 30.
Previously Railways suspended all passenger train services due to the nationwide lockdown from March 25. However, from May 1, it resumed services in a staggered manner with Shramik Special Trains to commute migrant workers.
During the unlock phase, Railways started 230 special trains across the country. It was soon followed by 80 more special trains from September 12. All these additional train services were announced to allow reverse migration of workers to urban areas for work amid the COVID-19 situation.
Indian Railways also recently started operating 40 clone trains under its network. The clone trains will have fewer stoppages and will run at a higher speed than previous trains.
Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal in a tweet said, “Enhancing Connectivity & Passenger Convenience: Railways to gradually start additional 39 pairs of trains across the country to enhance ease of movement as the festive season draws close. The number of special trains will be increased to meet demand.”
