Indian Railways will run 80 new special trains starting from September 12. The bookings of which opened on September 10 at the Indian Railways (IR) website. However, the tickets are also available on station counters. All these trains will run in a full reservation system.
The new 80 trains will be in addition to the 230 special trains already in operation. In the last six months, 30 special Rajdhani type trains and 200 Special Mail Express trains were introduced. The introduction of the trains was in various stages of the lockdown and unlocking process.
According to Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav, the railways will monitor all the trains that are currently in operation. This will be done to monitor the trains having a long waiting list. Wherever there will be a demand for a particular train or long waiting list, the Railways will run a clone train ahead of the actual train. This will ease the traffic and provide comfort to passengers during travel.
The main reason for deciding the 80 new trains was the fact that many migrant workers are going back to their workplace.
Many trains are running in the reverse direction of the Shramik Special trains.
The Indian Railways is constantly monitoring the occupancy of trains. As per the demands, they will also run more trains. Among the 230 trains, the occupancy of 12 trains is very less. Indian Railways will still run these 12 trains, however, they will reduce the number of coaches. The average occupancy in the 230 trains is 80-85 percent.
According to sources, the Indian Railways is constantly coordinating with the state governments while deciding on the introduction of new trains.
