The Indian National Congress (INC) is all set to enrol a force of five lakh web warriors to diversify its digital footprint to take on the well-established BJP with the aim of spreading its message across internet community platforms.
“Join Congress social media” campaign will be launched by the congress in India which would be a sizeable recruitment drive. This process will begin by interviewing respondents out of which five lakh people will be selected as volunteers. Out of 5 lakh, 50,000 officeholders will be appointed at district, state and national level by the party’s social media team and the remaining 4.5 lakh people will be responsible for forming the network of Congress workers in spreading the message “coherence and in one voice”.
The INC appears to have realised the importance of social media after the pandemic and the use of Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp as influential. Even after having a weak social media presence as compared to the BJP, it somehow communicated its message to the masses through “speak up” campaigns.
According to a Congress member, “We have realised that this is the best way to beef up our social media team nationally with penetration down to district level. There is a big section of the population that wants to fight for Congress values and we are just tapping into that segment”.
After the recruitment process is over, people selected will undergo training in booth management and grassroots activities.
