Justice NV Ramana was on Tuesday appointed as the next Chief Justice of India by President Ram Nath Kovind.
Justice Ramana would take oath as the 48th CJI on April 24, a day after incumbent SA Bobde demits office.
Chief Justice of India SA Bobde had recommended Justice Ramana as his successor last month. In a letter to the Central government, the CJI had given the name of senior-most Supreme Court Judge Justice NV Ramana to be appointed as the next CJI.
Justice Ramana will hold the post till August 26, 2022. Following the appointment, he will become the second CJI from Andhra Pradesh.
