Bharat Electronics has been designated by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) as the lead agency for the development and production of the anti-drone system for the armed forces.
The anti-drone systems will also become a part of the security detail of PM Narendra Modi at his residence as well as his car motorcade.
Recently there has been an increase in the use of Chinese made commercial drones by Pakistan based terrorists to haul weapon payloads and drugs across LoC (line of Control) in Jammu & Kashmir and other international borders (IB).
Since 2019, terrorist groups based in Pakistan have been launching drone forays across the IB in Punjab and J&K for delivering drugs and weapons.
The anti-drone system developed by DRDO has a range of over three kilometers with radar capability and also has frequencies to jam unmanned aerial vehicles. It also has the capability to spot drones through radar and target them by a laser beam. These were deployed during the 2020 Republic and Independence Day.
