PM Narendra Modi on Monday said that the government should have minimal intervention in education policy. According to Narendra Modi, the policy belongs to everyone. Modi made this address in the virtual inaugural session of the Governors’ Conference on the National Education Policy (NEP).
During his address, Narendra Modi stated, “Education policy and education system are very important means of fulfilling the aspirations of India. The Centre, state government and local bodies are all responsible for the education system. However, the interference of the government on education policy must be minimal. Just like foreign policy, defence policy belongs to the country and not the government alone. Similarly, education policy belongs to the country.”
Modi also stated, “Now it is our collective responsibility to implement this spirit of NEP-2020 in Letter and Spirit.”
The virtual conference was attended by education ministers of all states, Vice-Chancellors of the state universities, and other senior officials. According to Modi, the more teachers and parents connect to education policy, the more students will connect.
The new education policy will pave way for opening campuses of the best international institutes in India. The policy will prepare youths of India on both fronts with knowledge and skills as per future requirements.
The conference is titled ‘Role of NEP-2020 in Transforming Higher Education’. It is organized by the Ministry of Education. NEP-2020 is the first education policy 21st century. Its announcement was after 34 years of the previous National Policy of Education in 1986.
