New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi on August 16 paid tribute to the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his second death anniversary.
Modi on his tweet said, “Tributes to beloved Atal Ji on his Punya Tithi. India will always remember his outstanding service and his efforts towards our nation’s progress.”
Home Minister Amit Shah also paid his tribute to the former Prime Minister. He termed Vajpayee a dedicated leader and also a skilled organizer.
On August 16 morning, President Ram Nath Kovind visited the ‘Sadaiv Atal’. He along-with Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu and PM Narendra Modi paid floral tribute to the former PM. ‘Sadaiv Atal’ is the memorial of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Vajpayee’s daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya and grand-daughter Niharika also joined the PM and President at ‘Sadaiv Atal’.
Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister also paid respect to Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Rajnath Singh remembered Vajpayee for his tremendous contribution towards public life.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was born on December 25, 1924. He was born in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. He led the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government from 1998 to 2004. Vajpayee was also the first leader from BJP to become the Prime Minister of India. He became PM thrice, once in 1996, then from 1998 to 1999 and he served for a full five-year term between 1999 and 2004.

Vajpayee’s contribution to India’s development will always be admired. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the voice of patriotism and Indian culture. He played an important role in the growth of BJP. Atal Bihari Vajpayee also inspired millions of workers to serve the country. His vision for India will always continue to inspire many coming generations.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee apart from politics was also a prominent writer. He also penned down many poems. Owing to his feeble health, Vajpayee retired from active politics after 2004. On August 16, 2018, at the age of 93, the veteran BJP leader passed away.
On August 23, 2018, his ashes were immersed in Lucknow.
