PM Launches Matsya Sampada Yojana With Total Financial Outlay of Rs 20,050 cr

New Delhi: The Prime Minister of India e-launched the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) with total financial outlay of Rs. 20,050 crore.

PM, in his address, emphasized on deriving maximum benefits out of the PMMSY schemes towards making the Atmanirbhar Bharat. Assam is one of the frontline players in this sector and can play a major role in the North East region with its vast fisheries potential for tapping funds under PMMSY.

The State Action plan for Rs. 102194.328 lakh submitted by Govt. of Assam to the Central Govt. under PMMSY have been found to be realistic and appreciated at the Nation Level.

The Prime Minister said the scheme provides for new infrastructure, modern equipment, and access to new markets to the fish producers, along with increased opportunities for through farming as well as other means.

He also mentioned that this is the first time after independence, that such a major scheme has been launched in the country for the fisheries sector.

The programme was attended by Giriraj Singh, the Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Govt. of India, New Delhi, Sanjiv Balyan, the Minister of State (MoS), Ministry of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, New Delhi, Dr. Rajiv Ranjan, IAS, Secretary to the Government of India, Fishery Department, Ministry of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, New Delhi from their respective offices.

Assam was represented by St. Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister of Fisheries, Assam, Sri Kumar Sanjay Krishna, IAS, Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Sri Rakesh Kumar, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Assam, Fishery Department.

All officers of the Fishery Department, District Fishery Development Officials, and at least 10,000 farmers from each district of Assam registered and logged in a webcast for participation in today’s re-launched programme.
