Every year, Rajasthan celebrates its Statehood Day on March 30. On this occasion the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi greeted all the folks of Rajasthan.
Popularly known as “Land of the Kings”, Rajasthan is the largest Indian state in area. The day is also called “Rajasthan Day”.
The state was earlier called ‘Rajputana’. It got its recognition and its name as Rajasthan when it was formed on March 30, 1949.
The history of Rajasthan is rich and dates back to Rajputs, Mughals, Marathas, and British.
During the years it had been ruled by various kings including the Rajput, Marathas and even Muslim rulers, which had resulted in the diverse culture of Rajasthan, bearing numerous beautiful forts with a wide variety in its architecture, language and customs of its people. Among them one of the glorious tradition is the Traditional Puppetry of Rajasthan which is now globally popularized.
Kathputli ka khel (“wooden-puppet play”) is the string puppetry of Rajasthan in the north-west of India.
