National: A jawan of the Army’s counter-insurgency unity and a local militant commander were killed in a gunfight in Pulwama. The incident took place on the morning of August 13. Another soldier was injured during the gunfight.
In a separate incident, militants targeted an Army patrol along the Baramulla-Srinagar highway in north Kashmir, injuring a soldier.
The gunfight at Kamrazipora in Pulwama broke out when joint teams of the forces launched an operation. Following an input on militants’ presence in the area, the joint forces launched the operation.
According to sources, two soldiers were injured in the gunfight. Also, a Hizbul Mujahideen Commander was killed. The HM Commander was later identified as Azaad Lalhari.
Soon, the injured soldiers were taken to a hospital in Srinagar. Sowar Jilajeet Singh Yadav succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The martyred soldier belongs to UP.
In another incident, the Security forces unearthed two militant hideouts. The hideout was located in the forest area of Awantipora. Awantipora is located in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
The Security forces acted on a tip-off about the presence of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants. Security forces then launched a search operation in the Badroo forests of Awantipora. According to sources, the search operation started on August 12 at night. During the search, two hideouts of LeT outfit were busted and destroyed. He said incriminating material and a huge cache of explosive material and ammunition were recovered from hideouts. It includes over 1900 rounds of AK ammunition, two hand grenades, and a UBGL thrower with four grenades.
The other explosives recovered include ammonium nitrate-like substance, five gelatin sticks, one crude pipe bomb, and three code sheets.
A case has been registered at police station Awantipora in this regard.
