Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be visiting Sikkim to celebrate Dussehra with Indian Army troops posted near the Indo-China border.
The visit will come at a time when there is border tension between India and China in the Ladakh sector. Singh is likely to visit on October 23-24 and will also inaugurate many road projects and strategic bridges for easy movement of troops and common citizens to border areas.
It is also speculated that he will perform ‘Shastra puja’ (performed annually at the time of Dussehra by warriors) with one of the local units deployed in a forwarding location near the China border in Sikkim.
The upcoming visit of Singh will visit the morale of soldiers deployed in forwarding areas. Last year, he performed ‘Shastra puja’ in France while receiving the first Rafale aircraft for India.
India and China are engaged in a stand-off since April-May after a tense confrontation took place between troops of India and China in North Sikkim.
