Maharashtra government on Friday has extended the Covid lockdown in the state till February 28.
This decision was taken a day after Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhusan said that Maharashtra and Kerala account for the highest number of active cases. State Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar issued the notification extending the lockdown by almost a month.
The notification states-
“The state of Maharashtra is threatened with the spread of Covid-19 virus, and therefore to take certain emergency measures to prevent and contain the spread of virus, the Government in the exercise of the powers conferred under Section 2 of the Epidemic Disease Act, 1897, read with all other enabling provisions of The Disaster Management Act, 2005, it is expedient to extend the lockdown in State of Maharashtra further till 28th February 2021.”
Almost all restrictions imposed in the state under lockdown, which began from the third week of March 2020 have been lifted, except the curbs on the reopening of private and government offices, swimming pools, and interstate activities.
