On December 22, two militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) surrendered during an encounter in the south Kashmir district of Kulgam, which took place after the security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO).
Troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched the operation in the early hours of Tuesday in Tangdoona village of the Kulgam district, the officials said. When House-to-House search operation was launched in the wee hours of the day, militants hiding there open fired. They were requested by their family members and security forces to surrender.
They were also assured by the forces that they won’t be harmed if they surrender. After some time, both the LeT militants surrendered before the security forces and handed over two grenades and two pistols.
Yawar Wagey and Aamir Mir were identified as the two surrenderers. Around 12 militants of different categories surrendered during encounters in the Kashmir Valley in the last few months.
