The winter session of the Parliament has been scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government officially informed.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi while responding to a letter of Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary stated that all political parties favour scrapping the winter session of the parliament to avoid any Covid spread and jumping straight to the Budget session in January.
“Winter months are very crucial for managing the pandemic because of the recent spurt in cases during this period, particularly in Delhi. At present, we are in the middle of December and a COVID vaccine is expected very soon. In this regard, I have informally contacted floor leaders of various political parties and they have expressed concerns about the ongoing pandemic and opined of doing away with the Winter session,” Joshi said.
The Congress, however, has stated that it has not been consulted.
