The Water Resource Department Minister of Assam, Pijush Hazarika, on Thursday, visited the ongoing Uriam Ghat in Jonai constituency (Dhemaji district), where preventive measures are being taken and a porcupine dam is being built to check soil erosion. Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency MLA Pradan Barua and Jonai constituency MLA Bhuban Pegu as well as Water Resources Department officials were present during the inspection.
The party visited the porcupine dam scheme. This scheme was brought to construct a dam to prevent flood erosion on the banks of the Lali river. A fund of 6.5 million was sanctioned under the scheme of NABARD to build this dam.
On the other hand, Minister Pijush Hazarika expressed his anguish to the engineers and contractors of the Water Resources Department said that they would be in danger of slacking off in the construction of dams and that they have to compensate for it.
