To solve the traffic jam problem in Guwahati roads the Public Work Department, under the direction of the Assam government, has taken steps to construct a two-lane flyover at Zoo Tinali on RG Baruah Road. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for the construction of the 580m long and 15m wide flying bridge to be constructed on 1st February at a cost of Rs 78.93 crore.
In the meeting held on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma addressed the PWD and the contractor entrusted with the responsibility and appealed that they should try to complete the construction of the flyover three-four months ahead of schedule, just as the construction work of the Dispur Supermarket flyover has set a record by completing 4 months before the targeted time.
Anil Das, who was entrusted with the responsibility of constructing the flyover, has started the construction work after the Chief Minister’s appeal. Hemanta Dutta Bharali, Executive Engineer and Assistant Executive Engineer, Bhaskar Mishra Bhagwati, East Guwahati Regional Road Division, PWD, started the work of the piling test in the evening.
The construction of poles will be started within the next few days after the piling test. Camps have already been set up under the Anandaram Baruah flyover of Chandmari so that the construction work can be carried out quickly. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly felicitated contractor Anil Das at the launch of the flying bridge.
