Niti Aayog member, Dr. VK Paul on Friday during a press briefing informed that during the Covid 19 second wave, one dose of vaccine was able to reduce the mortality rate by 82 percent.
Meanwhile, two doses of vaccine were successful in preventing 95 percent of deaths.
India saw a minor dip in the daily coronavirus cases with 38,949 fresh Covid 19 infections on Friday morning.
The latest Health Ministry data informed that 542 people lost their lives due to Covid in the last 24 hours.
At present, India has 4,30,422 active cases, and the national recovery rate stands at 97.28 percent.
Presenting a slideshow, Dr. Paul highlighted the vaccine effectiveness in preventing Covid 19 deaths.
He informed that out of a total of 17,059 police personnel who were not administered the vaccine, 20 died due to Covid 19. The death per 1000 in such incidence stands at 1.17.
Meanwhile, out of a total of 32,792 police personnel who were administered the first Covid vaccine, seven died due to the virus. The death per 1000 stands at 0.21 and the vaccine effectiveness is at 82 percent.
Also, four died due to Covid 19 out of a total of 67,673 police personnel. All of them were administered both doses. The vaccine effectiveness in such incidence is 95 percent and the death rate per 1000 stands at 0.05.
Dr. Paul during the press briefing also warned that the second wave of Covid 19 is not over yet and urged people to take all the necessary precautions.
“In order to prevent the third wave in the country we have to take concerted efforts and response efforts. Vaccination should be done in large numbers to prevent the outbreak of the Covid 19 third wave in the country.
