No country-specific ban on imports,Minister Piyush Goyal to the Parliament

27 July 2022: On Wednesday Union Minister of Commerce and Industry informed the Parliament that India has not imposed any country specific bans on imports in response to question put forwarded on whether any measures taken by the central government towards ban of Chinese products.

“India and China, are both members of the WTO, and any trade restriction imposed must be WTO compliant. Government has from time to time reviewed and taken WTO compliant measures to address the concerns raised by various stakeholders to have a holistic global trade strategy,” he said further in his reply.
Minister Goyal further assured that according to Import policy of the government, all import goods are subjected to different set of laws, can also impose ban if found to violate any rules and regulations that can question our national security.
The restriction on imports are authorised by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) .
Minister Goyal further emphasized on domestic manufacturing and government’s schemes to support and promote domestic manufacturing. He mentions about various government schemes that helps promoting and developing domestic products like Production Linked Incentive or PLI, a scheme that aims to give companies incentives on incremental sales from products manufactured in domestic units or Atmanirbhar Bharat policie that reduce dependency on imports.
